The owner, Jennifer DeFrain, MS, RD, started consulting as a dietitian in Orange County in 2003. After working as a clinical dietitian and clinical nutrition manger in the hospital setting and then as a consultant in various health care facilities, she saw the need for more thorough screening of consultants before entering California's highly-regulated healthcare environment. She decided to start a company with the mission to provide healthcare facilities with professional, qualified, and experienced dietitians. Jennifer is able to successfully screen dietitians to fit the particular needs of various health care settings.
Dietitians of Orange County has a pool of experienced registered dietitians providing quality work in a variety of healthcare settings throughout Southern California.
Jennifer’s curiosity in life and eagerness to learn drove her to start working at a very
young age. Like many 12 year olds in the 80’s she started babysitting for family friends
and became a “candy striper” in the local hospital and as soon as she became eligible
to work in the state of Virginia, at the age of 15, she entered the work force in the food
industry. She started at McDonald’s followed by Olive Garden and Pizza Hut where she attributes much of her business sense today. “These are multibillion dollar companies kids can learn so incredibly much from at such an early age, not only learning about work ethic and customer service but also the many different facets of business that are behind the scenes”. The training programs, experiences within these corporations, policies and procedures, and the impeccable standards of consistency were irreplaceable. She continued in customer service related jobs throughout high school and college.
In 1997 Jennifer completed her dietetic internship at the Detroit Medical Center in downtown Detroit and started her career in the hospital setting in 1998. While working in the hospital she continued her education at Central Michigan University pursing a Master’s Degree in Nutrition. She moved to Southern CA in 2001 where she continued to work in the hospital setting and went on to manage the nutrition department as a Clinical Nutrition Manager until 2003 at which time she started consulting to allow her the flexibility to complete her graduate thesis which she completed in 2004. In 2004 she continued consulting work with various health care facilities including hospitals, nursing homes, and assisted living. In 2005 she added on the experience of working with hospice patients which she truly developed a passion for and has since helped write the Hospice Chapter for the Nutrition Care manual for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Jennifer continues her career as a dietitian and owner of Dietitians of Orange County, which helps match other contract dietitians with various Health Care needs while she has continued to volunteer her time throughout the years with the Alzheimer’s Association, California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Orange District, and currently volunteers for various speaking engagements for the geriatrics population and serves on the Board of Directors for the 1100 Quail Street OA.
In Jennifer's free time she enjoys time with friends, fine wine, distance cycling, and just being out doors!
